The Constitutional Court decided to announce its ruling on whether to impeach Minister Park Seong-jae at 2 p.m. on the 10th. Minister Park's attorney noted in a notice sent to reporters on the 7th, "The impeachment ruling schedule for Minister Park has been set for 2 p.m. on the 10th."
The ruling on the impeachment of Minister Park comes 119 days after the National Assembly passed the impeachment proposal on Dec. 12 of last year. The Constitutional Court held one session for preparation of arguments and one formal argument before concluding the deliberation.
Earlier, the National Assembly cited reasons such as "participation in rebellion" in the impeachment of Minister Park. It was stated that Minister Park attended the Cabinet meeting held before the emergency martial law on Dec. 3 and was involved in the decision to declare martial law, and after the declaration, conspired to take follow-up action against acts of rebellion at the presidential safe house.
During the deliberation process, the Constitutional Court organized the issues concerning the grounds for the impeachment of Minister Park as follows: whether Minister Park's attendance at the Cabinet meeting corresponds to violations of criminal law and the Constitution regarding rebellion; whether the act of refusing to submit materials to the National Assembly constitutes a violation of the National Assembly's testimony and appraisals law; and whether leaving the plenary session early violates the Constitution and the State Public Officials Act.
