The prosecution has reportedly requested scheduling coordination for a summons investigation with Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, regarding the allegations surrounding Myung Tae-kyun's meddling in the candidate nomination process.
According to the legal community on the 7th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office's dedicated investigation team for the Myung Tae-kyun case, led by Head of Team Lee Ji-hyung, has recently mentioned the need to coordinate a schedule for a summons investigation with Kim Keon-hee's side.
A representative from Kim Keon-hee's side noted, “It is not an official summons notification, but an explanation of the circumstances that a summons is necessary.” As a result, there are predictions that the prosecution will soon issue an official summons notification to Kim Keon-hee.
The prosecution is investigating allegations that Kim Keon-hee intervened to ensure that former People Power Party Representative Kim Young-sun was nominated during the 2022 parliamentary by-elections. They suspect that Kim Keon-hee received public opinion surveys related to former President Yoon from Myung Tae-kyun for free, and in exchange, she intervened in the candidate nomination.
Previously, according to recorded phone conversations disclosed by the Democratic Party of Korea, former President Yoon said to Myung on May 9, 2022, the day before his presidential inauguration, “I told you to help Kim Young-sun since I worked hard for her since the primaries, but there’s a lot of talk about it at the party.” This was also the day before the People Power Party's announcement of the by-election nominations.
According to recorded phone conversations obtained by a media outlet, on the same day, Kim Keon-hee also told Myung, “The nominee (former President Yoon) just called. Anyway, don’t use the nominee's name, just push (Kim Young-sun) to do it.”
Meanwhile, Kim Keon-hee is also suspected of attempting to intervene in the candidate nomination process for the April 10 elections last year. Myung Tae-kyun claims that “on February 18 last year, Kim Keon-hee suggested to former Representative Kim Young-sun that if former Prosecutor Kim Sang-min could be elected in the Changwon Uichang constituency, she would offer a minister or a position as a head of a public enterprise after the election.”
