The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 7th that it plans to resume road traffic at the site of the subsidence (sinkhole) accident in Myeongil-dong, Gangdong-gu, starting at 11 p.m. on the 20th.

The accident site is on the southeastern road of the Daemyoung Elementary School Entrance Intersection in Gangdong-gu. In the accident, a 30-year-old motorcycle driver named Park was killed.

Since March 27, the Seoul Metropolitan Government had partially resumed traffic on the four-lane roads of Daemyoung Elementary School Entrance Intersection and Sangam-ro, excluding the sinkhole accident site.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government will continue restoration and cause investigation efforts until traffic is resumed at the accident site. From the 4th, they have been conducting internal reinforcement work on the tunnel at the construction site of Line 9 Phase 4, located beneath the road, in order to stabilize the road, followed by backfilling stabilization work at the surface subsidence site.

On this day, the Central Underground Accident Investigation Committee will observe the surface backfilling work for the accident investigation and conduct sample collection. From the 8th to the 20th, they will promote ground reinforcement at the sinkhole site and restore underground facilities such as city gas, sewer, water supply, and perform road paving for about two weeks.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government also plans to resume the supply of city gas, which was halted after the sinkhole accident, from the 10th after a thorough inspection.

Han Byeong-yong, the head of the Disaster and Safety Headquarters of Seoul, said, "We will cooperate with the underground accident investigation committee to ensure the investigation into the cause of the accident is not hindered and will do our best to ensure that restoration work is done safely and quickly."
