The 'Geonjin Beopsa' Jeon Mo (61), who has been indicted for accepting illegal political funds, said regarding the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, "The people of the Republic of Korea are all upset about it." Jeon is known to have been active in Yoon's presidential campaign and also served as an advisor at Kobana Contents, which was operated by Kim Keon-hee.

After the first hearing of his case regarding violations of the Political Fund Act held on the 7th before Judge Go So-young of the Seoul Southern District Court's Criminal Division 9, Jeon made this comment in response to reporters' questions about former President Yoon's impeachment. He also stated that "such questions should not be asked of a private citizen." He did not answer the question about "what relationship he has with former President Yoon and his wife."

Jeon was indicted for receiving 100 million won in cash from local politicians, including candidates who ran in the primary of the Liberty Korea Party (the predecessor of People Power Party), saying he would ensure their victory as mayor of Yeongcheon ahead of the 7th nationwide local elections in 2018. At the time, it was investigated that Jeon received money by leveraging his connection with a lawmaker from the People Power Party.

In court, Jeon's lawyer stated, "He was not a person engaged in political activities in 2018," and emphasized that "he cannot be the subject of violations of the Political Fund Act, so the charges do not stand."

The court noted to the prosecution, "From the standpoint of the charges themselves, it is ambiguous whether Jeon is the person who delivered or received the political funds, so whether he is indeed the subject of violations under the Political Fund Act is unclear," and asked to review the indictment and clarify it at the next hearing.

The next trial will be held on May 12.
