The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that on the 4th, an emergency meeting of vice mayors in cities and provinces was held under the chairmanship of Acting Minister Ko in light of the Constitutional Court's ruling on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol.

At the meeting, Acting Minister Ko urged the vice mayors to play a role in stabilizing people's livelihoods and ensuring public safety.

First, he instructed the local governments to carry out urgent issues and tasks without delay. In areas affected by recent large wildfires, the central government and local governments have agreed to work together to conduct quick damage assessments and support housing stability for prompt recovery of the victims' daily lives.

Additionally, amid the vacancy of the presidency, there are plans to actively work to establish a public service discipline to ensure that there are no violations of the political neutrality obligation of civil servants.

The government has also decided to gather its capabilities for disaster safety management for the safety of the people. It will establish a safety management system by promoting concentrated safety inspections in preparation for various disasters and safety accidents. In the event of a disaster, it was decided to respond quickly centered on the vice mayors in cities and provinces to minimize loss of life and property.

In addition, measures to stabilize the living conditions of ordinary people and the local economy will also be pursued. The execution of local government finance will be expedited to stimulate domestic demand, and local festivals and events will be held as scheduled, within the confines of the Public Official Election Act.

Acting Minister Ko noted, "The greater the uncertainty at home and abroad, the more the central and local governments must cooperate closely for the stability of people's livelihoods and public safety," adding, "I hope that you will do your utmost to faithfully carry out the necessary tasks in the places where you should be for the welfare and safety of residents."
