It has been reported that nine education offices have sent an official document to their respective schools outlining that students will be able to view the live broadcast of the Constitutional Court's ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment trial scheduled for the 4th.
According to the education sector on the 3rd, the nine education offices from Gwangju, Gyeongnam, Seoul, Sejong, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, Ulsan, Incheon, and Chungnam sent documents to local schools recommending the use of the live broadcast of the President's impeachment trial in the educational curriculum.
The Constitutional Court will announce its ruling on President Yoon's impeachment trial at 11 a.m. on the 4th.
Seoul Superintendent of Education Jeong Geun-sik stated on his Facebook page that "Tomorrow at 11 a.m. will be recorded as another historical moment in modern Korean history," adding, "I hope that young people can directly watch the ruling tomorrow and discuss it, providing an opportunity to cherish essential constitutional values for a long time."
It is reported that the other eight education offices besides the Seoul Education Office also sent similar documents to their schools. The superintendents of these education offices are classified as having a progressive inclination.
In contrast, the superintendents of the remaining eight education offices have reportedly not sent such documents.
In relation to this, the Ministry of Education announced in a press release to reporters in the afternoon that "Today, the Ministry has sent an official document to the education offices regarding the precautions for viewing the live broadcast of the impeachment trial."
The official document sent by the Ministry of Education to the education offices includes a directive to ensure that no violations of relevant laws, such as Article 6 (Neutrality of Education) of the Framework Act on Education and the Public Official Election Act, occur during the viewing of the President's impeachment trial ruling. It also stated that if classes need to be adjusted for viewing the ruling, schools must go through internal procedures.
