The side of the complainant stated on the 31st that they submitted evidence materials, including videos, to the investigative agency regarding the sexual violence allegations against former People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won.
Attorney Kim Jae-ryeon of the law firm Onsesang issued a press release that they possess evidence supporting the claim of sexual violence and that it had been submitted to the investigative agency. Attorney Kim noted that when Jang was serving as vice president of a university in Busan, he worked as a secretary, and he is the legal representative for A, who filed the complaint against Jang.
Attorney Kim claimed that Jang sexually assaulted A between approximately 12 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 18, 2015, at a hotel in Gangnam, Seoul.
According to Attorney Kim, Jang, A, and others attended a dinner gathering on Nov. 17, 2015, that continued to a third round. A stated that due to excessive drinking, they do not remember anything after the middle of the second round. It is reported that at the third gathering, A recalled some scenes only after waking up in the morning of the 18th and looking at photos taken on their mobile phone.
A realized in the morning of Nov. 18, 2015, based on the surrounding circumstances, that they had been the victim of sexual assault and harassment. Subsequently, thinking that evidence needed to be preserved, A took photos and videos of the situation inside the hotel room while Jang was asleep.
Attorney Kim asserted that the video taken at that time includes ▲ the situation where Jang calls A's name and gives them errands, ▲ the situation where Jang attempts to harass A, and ▲ the situation where A responds with a sobbing voice. Attorney Kim mentioned that the evidence submitted to the investigative agency recently consists of these materials.
Attorney Kim also stated that A visited the Haru Center, a support organization for victims of sexual violence on the day of the incident, to collect evidence using an emergency kit. The results of an evaluation conducted by the National Forensic Service indicated that male genetic material was detected from specific body parts and underwear of A.
Attorney Kim revealed that A submitted the evaluation report received from the National Forensic Service. Additionally, A submitted a handwritten memo recorded about a month after the incident and the consultation diary from the Haru Center to the investigative agency. This memo reportedly details A's visit to the Haru Center and the obstetric examination they received.
Furthermore, it is claimed that Jang sent A text messages containing statements like 'I feel very troubled all day. Make sure to come to work tomorrow' or made phone calls. Attorney Kim stated, "The perpetrator claimed that the content of those text messages had been edited, but the victim did not respond to calls or texts from the perpetrator after secretly escaping from the hotel," adding, "Because these messages are not conversational, there’s no need to consider the context, and they are simply messages sent frantically by the perpetrator to the victim."
Former lawmaker Jang has been accused of committing sexual violence (attempted aggravated rape) against secretary A while he was vice president of a university in Busan in November 2015. Jang's side maintained that there was no truth to A's allegations of sexual assault. Attorney Kim said, "What Jang needs to do is admit his wrongdoing and properly apologize to the victim."
Attorney Kim disclosed that A had undergone police questioning three times following the filing of the complaint on Jan. 17. Jang appeared for questioning on the 28th.
Attorney Kim previously served as the legal representative for the victim of the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon's sexual violence case. He noted, "In the internet articles reporting the complaint against Jang, there is an attitude of asking, 'Why is the lawyer who attacked Park Won-soon keeping silent?' and asserted, 'The public needs to remove partisan logic when looking at this case.'"
