A male employee in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, working for gaming company S, has been reported to the police for allegedly taking unauthorized photos of a female colleague, identified as Ms. B, in the company's elevator using his mobile phone camera. Mr. A is also said to be under suspicion for photographing the bodies of other women.
The case is under investigation by the Bundang Police Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. After receiving Ms. B's report of the incident, company S conducted its own investigation and reported Mr. A to the police. Mr. A is facing allegations of violating the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.
According to the police, numerous illegal recordings of women's bodies taken in the company elevator and workspaces are stored on Mr. A's electronic devices. The police are also verifying whether there are other victims within the company besides Ms. B. Furthermore, it has been investigated that Mr. A possesses photographs of the bodies of several women taken in public transportation or public places. A police official noted, "All victims are women," and stated, "It has been confirmed that there are no illegal recordings that have been leaked outside."
Mr. A is reported to have acknowledged the illegal filming during the internal investigation at company S. Currently, Mr. A is not attending work, and no disciplinary action has yet been taken. Company S stated, "We are working with investigative authorities to prevent secondary harm to the victim" and added, "We will respond decisively to ensure that strict punishments are applied in accordance with the principle of zero tolerance."
The police plan to forward Mr. A's case to the prosecution. The Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes stipulates that individuals who take unauthorized photos of others' bodies using devices such as cameras can face up to seven years in prison or fines of up to 50 million won. Habitual offenders may face increased penalties.
