The police will focus on crackdowns on 'violence in living environments' that occur in shops and emergency rooms.
The Korean National Police Agency announced on the 31st that it will conduct a three-month crackdown targeting violent acts such as extortion, assault, and destruction against small businesses in shops and markets from April 1 to June 30.
Among these, the use of weapons will be subject to detention investigations as a principle, and even if there is no detention, a meticulous analysis of potential motives for the crime will be conducted, and the history of mental illness will be identified for active consideration of separation measures such as emergency hospitalization. The police plan to apply charges of assault, intimidation, and obstruction of public duty for violent acts against emergency medical personnel, public officials, and police officers.
The police will also focus on crackdowns on robbery, theft, and other property crimes. This includes crimes like snatching, street robbery, and vehicle theft, as well as crimes that involve breaking into homes and other buildings, and acquiring stolen goods to convert them into cash.
A police official said, 'In cases where the damage is serious or there is a concern about recidivism or retaliation, we will actively deploy available police forces such as criminal mobile units to resolve the cases quickly.'
