On the 28th, the Korean Bar Association noted that the Constitutional Court must promptly issue a ruling on President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment trial.
The association urged a swift ruling from the court through a statement, saying, "We call for the court to act quickly to prevent a prolonged state of social confusion," and emphasized that "the court's decision must be based solely on a sober interpretation and judgment grounded in the Constitution and laws."
It continued, "We have spent a long time in a state of division among the people, marked by conflict and the absence of dialogue and compromise," and asserted that "political and ideological confrontations have ultimately led to a serious situation that undermines the very foundations of the rule of law."
Furthermore, the association expressed concern by stating, "As the date for the ruling has not been established for an extended period, allegations are rising that the deliberations are being prolonged due to the political leanings of the Constitutional Court justices," adding that "we cannot help but express deep concern about the prevalent situation of analyzing individual justices' inclinations to preemptively judge the trial's outcomes."
It also remarked, "The constitutional trial is the last bastion of the rule of law," emphasizing that "regardless of the decisions made by the Constitutional Court, our society must respect them, and the political realm should also abide by the Court's decision."
The Constitutional Court concluded the hearings on President Yoon's impeachment trial on the 25th of last month. However, it has not yet announced the date for the ruling. Given that the court typically notifies the ruling date 2 to 3 days in advance, there are forecasts that a ruling this month has become unlikely.
