Former People's Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won was questioned by police on the 28th on suspicion of sexually assaulting his secretary several years ago.
The Women's Safety Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated that they conducted a questioning session with former lawmaker Jang and that further investigation is planned based on a comprehensive assessment of related statements and evidence.
Former lawmaker Jang, who has served as a three-term National Assembly member, is accused of committing sexual violence (quasi-rape) against his secretary, identified as A, in November 2015 when he was the vice president of a university in Busan.
A reportedly stated to the police that after drinking alcohol at a gathering following a photo shoot for a campaign poster ahead of former lawmaker Jang's candidacy in the general election, he committed sexual violence against her.
Former lawmaker Jang has maintained that the sexual assault alleged by A never occurred.
