In the afternoon, the weather conditions gradually improved, allowing for the deployment of helicopters. Although it rained only 5 mm per hour, the increased humidity from the rain also helped. Finally, at 3 p.m., the main fire was extinguished, and the firefighting crew focused on mopping up the remaining embers, resulting in complete extinguishment around 8:40 p.m. The wildfire in Uljin, which lasted six days, completely ceased after burning 931 hectares, an area equivalent to 1,300 soccer fields.
Authorities believe the cause of the Onyang wildfire was a spark from welding work being done at a nearby farm shed, and they plan to investigate the exact cause of the outbreak, the area of damage, and property loss through a wildfire investigation team in accordance with Article 42 of the Forest Protection Act.
