Lee & Ko (Managing Partner Kim Sang-gon) announced on the 27th that it has recruited Zachary Sharpe, an international arbitration expert from a global law firm.

According to Lee & Ko, Sharpe served as the head of the international disputes team at Jones Day's Singapore office, a world-renowned law firm. Sharpe will take on the role of co-head of the international arbitration team alongside attorney Park Eun-young, an international arbitration expert who joined Lee & Ko in October last year.

International arbitration is a process by which parties involved in cross-border transactions, subject to different laws and systems, appoint arbitrators to make determinations. Lee & Ko previously established the international disputes group to provide legal services related to international disputes, including international arbitration and litigation.

Sharpe is regarded as an expert in energy, construction, and shipbuilding. He graduated from George Washington University Law School. He worked as an in-house counsel at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for about five years, dealing with disputes related to shipbuilding, infrastructure, and marine design. He later joined Jones Day, where he served as the head of the international disputes team at the Singapore office, handling large-scale international dispute cases.

In addition, Sharpe is active as a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb), an arbitrator for the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board, a member of the committee for the revision of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board's international arbitration rules, and a commissioner of the Society of Construction Law (SCL).

A representative from Lee & Ko noted, "Sharpe is particularly an expert on the Korean market, which is rare for a foreign attorney, as he can understand the culture and practical aspects of Korean corporations."

Kim Sang-gon, managing partner of Lee & Ko, said, "We have secured the highest level of expertise and experience in the field of international disputes," adding, "We will strive to lead the industry and provide our clients with the best legal services."
