Governor Kim Young-hwan of North Chungcheong Province reported a net worth of minus 400 million won. He was the only regional governor in the country to report a negative net worth last year, and this year that deficit has increased.
According to the '2025 Public Official Regular Asset Change Report' published by the government public officer ethics committee on the 27th, Governor Kim reported a net worth of -407 million won. This represents an increase of 320.09 million won in negative assets compared to last year (-80.61 million won).
Governor Kim reported a total of 7.71381 billion won in assets, including land (740.28 million won), buildings (6.78819 billion won), automobiles (37.11 million won), deposits (144.46 million won), and securities (3.77 million won). However, with debts amounting to 8.11454 billion won, he has a negative net worth.
A significant portion of Governor Kim's debt, amounting to 7 billion won, is reportedly due to the cancellation of plans to sell three buildings in Jongno, Seoul, shortly after he took office. He had planned to sell the buildings to repay the debt, but buyers have been hard to find.
