The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 26th that it will begin a planned supervision targeting Hyundai Engineering's headquarters and worksites.
Recently, worker fatalities have occurred one after another at Hyundai Engineering construction sites. In a collapse at a construction site on the Seoul-Sejong Expressway on February 25, four people were killed and six injured. Additionally, on the 10th of this month, one person died at a construction site for an apartment in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. Under these circumstances, another incident occurred on the 25th at an apartment construction site in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, resulting in one death. In just one month, three worker fatalities have occurred, claiming six lives.
In accordance with this year's planned supervision, the Ministry of Employment and Labor is taking gradual measures for comprehensive construction companies ranked in the top 1,000 in construction capability whenever a fatal accident occurs. This starts with sending official documents containing safety reminders when the first fatal accident happens, and if additional fatal accidents occur, on-site inspections of some business sites nationwide will be conducted.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to conduct planned supervision of 25 out of Hyundai Engineering's 87 construction sites nationwide (30%). Approximately four worker supervisors will be deployed to each of the targeted construction sites.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to complete the planned supervision of Hyundai Engineering by the end of the month.
