The Ministry of Employment and Labor noted on the 26th that it would take action regarding the general strike announced by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, saying, 'We will act in accordance with the law and principles.' Previously, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions stated that if the Constitutional Court does not set a date for the impeachment ruling against President Yoon Suk-yeol by this day, it will hold a general strike on the 27th. The Constitutional Court has completed the hearings on the impeachment of President Yoon but has not yet announced the ruling schedule.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor issued a statement that day, saying, 'The union's political strike is an illegal act that cannot be protected by the Labor Union Act because it lacks the legitimacy of purpose, regardless of working conditions.' It added, 'We will ensure legitimate union activities are protected, but we plan to take action against violations of laws and regulations.'
Minister Kim Moon-soo said, 'It is inappropriate to conduct a political strike in the midst of a severe economic situation, where many citizens are suffering from wildfires,' and urged, 'Please protect the industrial sites.'
