Insults and threats to find the home of Constitutional Court Justice Jeong Gye-seon, who issued a lone concurring opinion in the impeachment trial of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, have been ongoing.
At around 6 p.m. on the 24th, dozens of supporters of President Yoon held a rally in front of Justice Jeong's home in Seoul. Earlier that day, at 10 a.m., the Constitutional Court dismissed the impeachment petition against Prime Minister Han, marking a rally where Justice Jeong was the only one to express a concurring opinion.
Supporters of President Yoon unearthed Justice Jeong's address in online communities.
A conservative YouTuber turned on a live broadcast and went to Justice Jeong's home, waving a red flashlight and a Taegukgi. He shouted, "Concurrence monster Jeong Gye-seon." Although police dispatched in response to reports warned that "since this is a dwellings area, shouting could lead to many complaints," he continued to yell.
Some supporters of President Yoon, advocating for one-person protests, maintained distance while chanting slogans like "Impeachment invalid" and "Jeong Gye-seon resign," and they noted plans to hold another rally on the 26th.
Recently, personal attacks and conspiracy theories against Justice Jeong have proliferated in conservative online communities. In one online community, there was even a post titled "A summary of the past activities of the unjust judge Jeong Gye-seon," which included details about Justice Jeong's affiliated organizations and trial history.
Additionally, in a chatroom opposing President Yoon's impeachment, which had over 1,000 participants, chats containing threats and insults toward Justice Jeong continued, including remarks like "It seems he has lost his mind" and "If we don't beat him up, the next trial might not go smoothly."
Previously, fervent supporters of President Yoon had staged protests at the home of Acting Constitutional Court Chief Moon Hyung-bae to pressure him. This time, they aim to locate Justice Jeong's home and protest there as well.
Concerns have been raised that directly pressuring a justice could infringe upon judicial authority. Among supporters of President Yoon, there are remarks suggesting that "finding homes through judgments is foolish," while those in favor of impeachment have called for protecting Justice Jeong, indicating that tensions and animosity are reaching extremes.
