A large sinkhole occurred in Myeongil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, on the 24th, prompting four nearby schools to decide on a discretionary closure on the 25th.

HanYoung Foreign Language High School, HanYoung High School, HanYoung Middle School, and Daemyung Elementary School announced that they would designate the day as a discretionary closure day due to the sinkhole that occurred in front of a gas station in Myeongil-dong the previous day.

HanYoung Middle and High Schools stated in an emergency notice the previous night that "access through the main gate is difficult due to the sinkhole incident in front of the gas station, gas supply has been suspended, and water cuts have been announced, making it difficult to use restrooms and provide meals," adding, "Above all, student safety is the priority, so we announced a discretionary closure."

HanYoung Foreign Language High School also suspended evening self-study and sent students home early the previous night due to concerns for students' safety. It was also determined that road and electrical safety would be difficult to secure because of the sinkhole incident, leading to the announcement of a discretionary closure.

Daemyung Elementary School decided on a discretionary closure that morning and informed students and parents.

These schools advised, "Please ensure that students do not approach the sinkhole and guide them to study safely at home."

Around 6:29 p.m. the previous day, a large sinkhole approximately 20 meters in diameter and 20 meters deep occurred at an intersection near Daemyung Elementary School in Myeongil-dong. As a result of the incident, one motorcycle driver fell into the sinkhole and went missing, while a vehicle driver who passed through the site just before the collapse sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
