The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) assigned the investigation into the case where the opposition party reported Director General Sim Woo-jeong of the prosecution for abuse of power related to the release of President Yoon Suk-yeol to the 3rd Investigation Division (Chief Prosecutor Lee Dae-hwan).
On the 25th, the CIO said in a notice sent to reporters, "The case against Chief Prosecutor Sim Woo-jeong, reported in relation to President Yoon's release, was assigned to the 3rd Investigation Division on this day."
Earlier, the Seoul Central District Court's 25th Criminal Division (Chief Prosecutor Ji Kwi-yeon) accepted the request for cancellation of detention filed by President Yoon's side on the 7th. Following this, the prosecution decided not to file an immediate appeal against President Yoon's release. On the 8th, Chief Prosecutor Sim directed President Yoon's release, and President Yoon was freed.
In response, the opposition party, including the Democratic Party of Korea, reported Chief Prosecutor Sim for abuse of power to the CIO. The opposition claimed, "By easily surrendering to the court's decision to cancel detention, he let the leader of the insurrection go and confessed to being an accomplice in the insurrection."
