A wildfire that broke out in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, spread rapidly, leading to the suspension of vehicle traffic on nearby highways and railway operations.
Korea Expressway Corporation announced that, as of 10 p.m. on the 25th, both directions of the Seosan-Yeongdeok Expressway from Dong Sangju Interchange (IC) to Yeongdeok IC (105.5 km) and both directions of the Jungang Expressway from Uiseong IC to Ponggi IC (73.3 km) will be fully controlled for safety.
Due to the spread of the wildfire, the controlled section of the Seosan-Yeongdeok Expressway is extending to the west, and the controlled section of the Jungang Expressway is extending to the north.
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) also suspended train operations over approximately 139 km on the Jungang Line from Yeongju to Gyeongju. Service was halted for five KTX-Ium trains and six regular trains on this line.
KORAIL is providing support for passengers to transfer to buses at the train operation suspension sections. Train operation status can be checked via the KORAIL Talk app, the KORAIL website, and the railway customer center (phone number 1588-7788).
Han Moon-hee, president of KORAIL, said, "We will temporarily suspend train operations until the safety of facilities such as tracks and overhead wires is secured," adding, "As strong winds are spreading the wildfire, please remain vigilant and take special care."
