A forest fire in Unhwa-ri, Onyang-eup, Ulsan's Ulju County has spread again after four days, leading to additional evacuation orders for 10 villages.
Ulju County sent a disaster safety text message at 8:20 p.m. on the 25th, stating, "Residents of nearby villages are urged to evacuate quickly due to the spread of the fire in Onyang-eup."
The villages subjected to additional evacuation orders include Sin-gi, Oegwang, Naegwang, Junggwang, Oegosan, Junggosan, Naegosan, Yangdal, Gyuji, and Sangdae.
The evacuation order was issued after the fire spread again post-sunset, with flames reaching close to residential areas. After sunset, the wind direction changed and the wind speed intensified, causing the fire to spread again.
Forest authorities are focused on preventing damage to residential areas by deploying firefighting equipment and personnel.
The fire began on the 22nd at a hillside in Unhwa-ri, Onyang-eup. Even on the fourth day since the fire started, efforts to extinguish it were unsuccessful due to dry conditions and strong winds. At one point, the containment rate rose to 98%, with expectations of completing the fire suppression before sunset, but the spread of another fire in Eonyang-eup diverted some equipment and personnel, leading to little progress in containment.
