On the 24th, Mapo District in Seoul announced that it would create an honorary road named 'Choi Kyu-ha-gil' in memory of the late Choi Kyu-ha, the 10th president of South Korea.
'Choi Kyu-ha-gil' runs from 15-gil 1 to 18 in Donggyo-dong where the Choi Kyu-ha House is located, measuring approximately 90 meters in length. Mapo District installed signs to indicate 'Seoul Donggyo-dong Choi Kyu-ha House' and 'Choi Kyu-ha-gil.' The signs include an image and achievements of the late president. The ground of Choi Kyu-ha-gil features the name 'Choi Kyu-ha-gil' designed in 'Choi Kyu-ha script.'
The Choi Kyu-ha House is where the late president lived from the time he was appointed prime minister in 1973 until he resigned as president and passed away in 2006. It was designated as a national registered cultural heritage in 2008.
Mapo District will hold the naming ceremony for Choi Kyu-ha-gil at 3 p.m. on the 27th. Park Kang-soo, head of Mapo District, noted, 'Although the Choi Kyu-ha House is registered as a national registered cultural heritage, it has been regrettable that its historical value has not been sufficiently recognized due to its location in a dwellings area.'
Last year, Mapo District also created an honorary road named 'Kim Dae-jung-gil' in Donggyo-dong to commemorate the late former president Kim Dae-jung.
