The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 24th that it selected 73 exemplary local governments that reduced inconveniences for residents through proactive administration. This was based on evaluations of a total of 243 local governments, including 17 metropolitan and 226 basic local governments across the country.
Proactive administration refers to the actions of public officials who actively handle tasks based on creativity and expertise for the public good. For example, a local government may establish a system that allows police to open the main entrance of an apartment building with a wireless remote in case of an emergency. This provides a solution for situations where a reporter cannot be contacted during a fire incident and the door cannot be opened.
The government evaluated last year's performance in promoting proactive administration across four categories: metropolitan, city, county, and district. As a result, Incheon was chosen for the metropolitan area, Suwon in Gyeonggi Province for the city category, Haenam County in South Jeolla Province for the county category, and Jung-gu in Seoul for the district category as the best institutions. Local governments selected as exemplary institutions will receive awards from the President, Prime Minister, and Minister of the Interior and Safety.
Deputy Minister Kim Min-jae noted, “We will internalize proactive administration in local governments and actively support the emergence of more good examples so that residents can receive more convenient and efficient administrative services.”
