The Constitutional Court announced that it will issue its decision on the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on the 24th at 10 a.m. The date for the ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment trial has not been disclosed.
If the court decides to dismiss the case, Prime Minister Han will immediately return to his duties. This would dissolve the so-called "acting acting" system where Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok succeeded Han as the acting president.
On the 20th, the court notified reporters that it would announce the ruling on the impeachment case of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in the main courtroom on the 24th at 10 a.m. The ruling comes 87 days after the National Assembly passed the impeachment motion against Han.
The National Assembly passed the impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han on Dec. 27 of last year, citing reasons such as his alleged facilitation of President Yoon Suk-yeol's declaration of martial law on Dec. 3 and his refusal to appoint a Constitutional Court justice. The court held two preliminary hearings for this case on Jan. 13 and Feb. 5, and concluded the arguments after just one formal hearing on Feb. 19.
Meanwhile, on that day, Cheon Jae-hyun, the Constitutional Court's spokesperson, noted in a call with ChosunBiz that it seems unlikely the date for President Yoon's ruling will be announced this week.
