The prosecutor's office requested a prison sentence for rapper Sik-K (Kwon Min-sik, 31) who voluntarily surrendered to the police, claiming he used drugs.
The prosecutor's office requested that the Seoul Western District Court's Criminal Division 7 (Director General Ma Sung-young) impose a sentence of 3 years and 6 months in the ruling on Kwon's violations of the Narcotics Control Act (marijuana) during a decision trial held on the 20th.
The prosecutor's office noted, "The defendant is a well-known rapper widely recognized by the public and has a significant influence on young people," adding, "Despite the heavier moral responsibility compared to others, the crime's quality is poor as he committed recidivism during the probation period for a similar drug crime in the past."
Kwon stated, "I don't think I've ever been this ashamed," and added, "I am truly reflecting deeply. If given the opportunity to repay my family and colleagues whom I have hurt, I will live my life regretting my actions going forward." Kwon's attorney also appealed for leniency, considering Kwon's voluntary surrender to the police that led to the investigation.
Kwon was charged with using ketamine and ecstasy from October 1 to 9, 2023. He is also suspected of using marijuana on January 11 and possessing it on January 13 last year.
On January 19 last year, Kwon told a police officer working near the Seoul Regional Veterans Office in Yongsan that he intended to surrender for drug use and underwent a police investigation.
The sentencing date is 10 a.m. May 1.
