The court will decide on the detention of Kim Sung-hoon, the Vice Administrator of the Presidential Security Service, and Lee Kwang-woo, the Deputy Minister, who are accused of obstructing the arrest of President Yoon Suk-yeol, on the 21st.
The Seoul Western District Court announced on the 19th that it will hold a pre-arrest interrogation for Kim and Lee at 10:30 a.m. on the 21st. The Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office filed a warrant for the two individuals around 5 p.m. the day before.
Previously, the Special Investigation Unit for Martial Law under the Korean National Police Agency applied for arrest warrants for Kim three times and for Lee twice, but the prosecution rejected all of them. The police then requested the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office to review whether the rejection of the arrest warrants by the prosecution was appropriate. The warrant review committee of the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office concluded on the 6th that the prosecution's application for an arrest warrant was proper.
Kim and Lee are accused of obstructing the first arrest operation of President Yoon by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) and the police, as well as other charges, such as unfairly taking personnel actions against officers of the Security Service who refused orders to prevent the arrest and instructing the deletion of records from encrypted phones stored by the Security Service, which is a violation of the Presidential Security Act.
