The Korean National Police Agency mandates traffic safety training for autonomous vehicle test drivers.
The Korean National Police Agency announced on the 19th that it will implement a revised Road Traffic Act based on this information. The training will be conducted online for 3 hours starting from the 20th, covering ▲laws related to autonomous vehicles ▲precautions ▲operational knowledge, etc. The Korea Road Traffic Authority will oversee the training.
Currently, autonomous vehicles are permitted to operate in designated testing areas. However, the lack of mandatory traffic safety training for test drivers has raised concerns about regulatory needs.
The Korean National Police Agency aims to enhance understanding of the technical characteristics of autonomous vehicles through safety training, ensuring that drivers are equipped to respond swiftly and appropriately in emergency situations.
Hanchang-hoon, head of the Korean National Police Agency's Life Security Traffic Bureau, noted, "As the commercialization of autonomous vehicles approaches, the training will greatly assist in enhancing operational stability and preventing traffic accidents."
