With heavy snow expected in the metropolitan area and regions such as South Chungcheong until the evening of the 18th, a 'heavy snow warning' has been issued.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety noted on the 18th that it activated the first phase of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters as of 11 p.m. on the 17th. The headquarters raised the heavy snow crisis alert level from 'attention' to 'caution.'
As of 5 a.m. that day, about 10 cm of snow had accumulated in the metropolitan area. The amount of new snowfall the previous day included ▲ 11.9 cm in northern Seoul ▲ 9.5 cm in Gwanak District, Seoul ▲ 9.8 cm in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province ▲ 8.7 cm in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.
As of 6 a.m. that day, no damage to facilities due to the snow had been reported.
However, 15 national parks and 369 sections were closed. Additionally, two flights departing from Gimpo and Jeju were canceled, and 66 ferries were unable to operate.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that snow or rain would fall in most parts of the country that day, but it was expected to cease mainly by night.
