Police have mobilized more than 3,000 riot officers from across the country to Seoul. This is in order to replace the Seoul riot officers who have been on high-intensity duty without rest since the emergency martial law situation on Dec. 3.
According to police on the 17th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency called in more than 3,000 officers from about 30 riot units nationwide for duty in Seoul that day. They are expected to work in Seoul for a certain period before rotating with other riot officers.
It is also reported that considerations were made regarding the possibility of a ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment trial as early as this week. A police official noted, "The aim is to ensure the rest of the Seoul riot officers and facilitate rotation duties in a situation where the exact ruling date cannot be predicted."
