Outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) have been confirmed in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province. This marks the third case of ASF reported in domestic pig farms this year.
The ASF Central Disaster Response Headquarters announced on the 16th that ASF was detected at a pig farm in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province.
The farm owner reported voluntarily on the same day after 44 pigs died in the morning, suspecting an ASF outbreak. The farm is raising more than 6,000 pigs.
The Central Disaster Response Headquarters will dispatch an initial response team and an epidemiological investigation team to the farm to prevent the spread of ASF. Access to the farm will be restricted, and the pigs being raised will be culled.
The Central Disaster Response Headquarters also issued a movement restriction order for livestock facility workers and vehicles in six cities and counties including Yeoncheon, Pocheon, Dongducheon, Uijeongbu, Goyang, and Paju, adjacent to Yangju, until 10 p.m. on the 17th.
Previously, ASF had also occurred in two pig farms in Yangju in January.
Acting President Choi Sang-mok, who is also the Minister of Economy and Finance, said on the same day, "Implement biosecurity measures without delay regarding ASF," urging relevant ministries, local governments, and institutions to actively carry out biosecurity measures.
