A building under demolition collapsed in the Jegi-dong area of Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, on the 14th, resulting in one person being trapped.
According to the Dongdaemun Fire Station in Seoul, around 1:34 p.m. on the same day, part of a building collapsed at the Jegi 4 district redevelopment site.
In this incident, a worker in his 50s who was checking the building's condition was trapped for about 15 minutes before being rescued, but he died after being transported to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest. Additionally, it was reported that an excavator operator sustained an injury to his right leg.
Police and fire authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor is also currently investigating whether there was a violation of the Serious Accident Punishment Act at the accident site. The Serious Accident Punishment Act punishes business leaders and imposes liability for damages based on compliance with safety and health obligations in the event of serious industrial or civil accidents. The contractor for the construction site is Hyundai E&C.
