On the 12th, police disclosed the personal information of a teacher, Myung Jae-wan (48), who brutally killed 8-year-old Kim Ha-neul with a weapon on campus on the 10th of last month.
The Daejeon Police Agency held a personal information disclosure review committee the previous day and decided to disclose Myung's personal information. The committee members gathered their opinions to disclose the personal information, taking into comprehensive consideration the brutality of the crime, the severity of the victim's case, and the opinions of the victim's family.
Regarding the committee's decision, Myung submitted a written opinion of "no objection," and on that day, Myung's name, age, and face were immediately disclosed. Myung's personal information will be posted on the Daejeon Police Agency website until the 11th of next month.
According to the law regarding the disclosure of personal information for suspects of certain serious crimes, there must be a grace period of five days after the committee's decision to disclose personal information. However, if the suspect indicates in writing an opinion of "no objection" to the disclosure decision, it can be disclosed immediately without the grace period.
Myung is accused of killing Kim Ha-neul with a weapon around 5:50 p.m. on the 10th of last month at an elementary school in Daejeon. Police plan to transfer Myung to the prosecution as early as around 10 a.m. today.
