During the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election, the prosecution is investigating allegations that 'political broker' Myung Tae-kyun provided opinion polls related to Mayor Oh Se-hoon and that Mayor Oh's side paid the expense. They are summoning Kim Byeong-min, the Vice Administrator of Seoul, for questioning.
On the 11th, according to the legal community, the dedicated investigation team of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Head of Team Lee Ji-hyung) notified Vice Administrator Kim to appear as a witness and undergo questioning at 1:30 p.m. on the 13th. The Vice Administrator of Seoul assists the mayor in coordinating and discussing Seoul's affairs with the National Assembly, city council, media, and political parties.
The prosecution is investigating allegations that during the April 2021 mayoral by-election, the polling company 'Future Korea Research Institute,' which was actually operated by Myung, conducted 13 unpublished opinion polls related to Mayor Oh, and that businessman Kim Han-jeong, known as a long-time supporter of Mayor Oh, paid an expense of 33 million won ahead of this.
In response, Mayor Oh's side has stated that this is 'clearly false.' Mayor Oh has filed a complaint with the Central District Prosecutors' Office against Myung for violating the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation) related to this matter.
Lee Jong-hyun, a special advisor for public communication for the Seoul city government, stated in a position paper released that day, 'We will sincerely explain in order to clarify the reality of Myung Tae-kyun's statements, which mix 5% truth with 95% falsehood.' Earlier, the prosecution investigated two close aides to Mayor Oh, including former Vice Administrator Kang Cheol-won and Special Advisor Park Chan-goo, regarding the allegations on the 10th.
