An explosion occurred at a construction site in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 11th, injuring two workers seriously and one worker sustaining minor injuries.
According to the fire authorities, the explosion is believed to have occurred around 8:12 a.m. on the same day in the underground eighth floor of a newly constructed neighborhood living facility in Cheongdam-dong. Three male workers in their 50s who were working suffered full body burns, leg injuries, and first-degree burns to the face, respectively. They have been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The fire authorities suspect that the accident occurred while cutting H-beams (reinforcements) with an oxygen welding machine. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident, and they are also assessing the extent of property damage.
Sixty-four personnel from the police and fire department and nine vehicles were mobilized for the rescue operation that day.
