An accident occurred on the 11th at a construction site of an apartment in Imun-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, where GS Engineering and Construction and HDC Hyundai Development Company are jointly building. One driver was killed.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to investigate HDC Hyundai Development Company for potential violations of the Serious Accident Punishment Act in connection with the accident that occurred at the construction site of the Imun I-Park Xi in Seoul on that day.
The accident occurred that afternoon when a driver in their 30s, referred to as A, was run over by construction materials. A was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest, but was pronounced dead.
The construction site where the accident occurred that day is a place jointly built by GS Engineering and Construction and HDC Hyundai Development Company.
A Ministry of Employment and Labor official noted, "When a serious accident occurs at a joint contracting business site, both parties are included in the investigation and inquiry," adding, "Even if it is a joint contract, there is typically a main construction company that manages and oversees the site, so if any legal violations are detected in the future, that construction company is often the one targeted."
However, a G-related official stated, "Although this accident site is a joint contract, it is executed in a separated tool manner and is unrelated to the accident site."
Meanwhile, earlier in August of last year, the body of a 30-year-old Chinese man, referred to as B, was found at the same apartment construction site. B was reported to be a day laborer working at the site. However, investigative results from the Ministry of Employment and Labor and police indicated that B died due to personal health issues and not because of an industrial accident.
