The Health and Safety Promotion Agency (Director Kim Chang-geun), under the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, announced on the 10th that it will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Educational Environment Protection Agency (Director Cho Myung-yeon) at 11 a.m. on the 11th to strengthen school environmental hygiene management.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, concerns are growing regarding the educational environment of schools near construction sites as recent reconstruction and redevelopment projects have increased in the Seoul area. In particular, the dust blowing from construction sites has raised issues about the safety of air quality in classrooms.
The Health and Safety Promotion Agency and the Korea Educational Environment Protection Agency are both specialized institutions in the fields of school environmental hygiene and educational environment assessment, respectively. The main contents of the agreement include: ▲Monitoring air quality at schools vulnerable to air pollution near construction sites and roads ▲Research and collaboration on school environmental hygiene ▲Improving laws, systems, and policies related to school environmental hygiene.
The Health and Safety Promotion Agency plans to proactively respond to protect the health of students and staff by monitoring indoor air quality and preparing tailored improvement measures for schools.
Kim Chang-geun, director of the Health and Safety Promotion Agency, noted, "This agreement will be the first step toward more professional and efficient improvements in school environmental hygiene management," and added, "We will continue to strive to ensure that students and staff can receive education in a safe and pleasant school environment."
