The inauguration ceremony of President Shim Jong-hyeok, who has been reappointed as the 17th president of Sogang University, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on the 13th at the Sogang University St. Ignatius Hall chapel.
President Shim is a graduate of the Department of Mathematics at Sogang University (class of 1974) and completed a master's degree in physics in 1981. He later obtained a master's degree in theology and pastoral studies from Western Theological Seminary in Boston, USA, and received a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. Since 1992, he has served as a professor at Sogang University, holding positions such as ▲ Director of the General Affairs Office ▲ Director of the Planning Office ▲ Director of External Relations ▲ Director of the Library ▲ Vice President for Academic Affairs ▲ Dean of Graduate School.
He was appointed as the 16th president in 2020 and was reappointed as the 17th president during the board meeting held on December 6 last year, allowing him to lead Sogang University for another four years.
The inauguration ceremony will begin with an inauguration mass officiated by Father Woo Jae-myung, Sogang University's chairman. President Shim is expected to share his vision for the university's future during the inaugural sermon at the subsequent opening mass.
After the inauguration ceremony, a reception will be held at the Matteo Hall, attended by Jesuit Provincial Kim Yong-soo, Chairman Woo, and Kim Kwang-ho, the president of the alumni association, who will deliver congratulatory remarks.
