On the 9th, the second day of President Yoon Suk-yeol's release, civic groups held large-scale rallies throughout Seoul. It is interpreted that they are mobilizing by faction amid expectations that the Constitutional Court will hold impeachment proceedings against President Yoon this week.
The 'Immediate Resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol and Social Reform Emergency Action' (Emergency Action), composed of progressive civic groups, held a press conference near the Gyeongbokgung Seo Sipsi-gak site in Jongno-gu at 11 a.m. that day, declaring the week until the 15th as 'Immediate Dismissal Urging Week.'
Those who began a hunger strike with the joint chairpersons at the same location from the previous day decided to hold large-scale rallies every day urging dismissal at 7 p.m. until President Yoon's dismissal. They also planned to hold a joint meeting with political parties on the 10th. In the afternoon, they are expected to file a complaint against Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung and others for abuse of power at the Korean National Police Agency.
Emergency Action claimed, "The prosecution, which positions itself as Yoon Suk-yeol's henchman, has released Yoon Suk-yeol," and said, "With the collaboration of the courts and prosecutors, the Constitution has been violated and democracy has been destroyed. Let's gather in the plaza and urge Yoon Suk-yeol's dismissal as soon as possible."
Groups opposing President Yoon's impeachment also gathered in front of the presidential residence in Hannam-dong that day, urging the dismissal of the impeachment.
The Sarang Jeil Church, led by Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon, held a '1.2 million Sunday service in front of the presidential residence' starting at 10:30 a.m. that day. According to unofficial police estimates as of noon, about 4,500 people had gathered, with attendees wearing hats and badges claiming electoral fraud while waving the South Korean and U.S. flags.
Pastor Jeon said, "With President Yoon’s release, the impeachment trial has become pointless. It’s over," and added, "If the Constitutional Court engages in distraction? I will activate the people's right to resistance and deal with it decisively." He further remarked, "The people are foolish, giving rise to leftist elements, and creating supporters of Lee Jae-myung. Let's activate the people's right to resistance and clean it all up," stating, "It started with President Yoon declaring a state of emergency. The conclusion can be made by all of us together."
Meanwhile, the police have significantly strengthened security measures near the president's residence in Hannam-dong alongside President Yoon's return. The overpass near the residence has been closed, and police buses have lined up alongside Hannam Elementary School, which is adjacent to the entrance of the residence.
