President Yoon Suk-yeol was released from the Seoul Detention Center in Gyeonggi's Uiwang City on the afternoon of the 8th.
On that day, around 5:48 p.m., President Yoon departed on a vehicle from the Presidential Security Service within the grounds of the detention center and then walked out of the main gate.
President Yoon waved his right hand at the supporters gathered in front of the main gate and also displayed a fist. He bowed twice and repeatedly raised his right hand or showed a fist in greeting. President Yoon was dressed in a white shirt and a suit but did not wear a tie. It seemed that he had not been able to dye his hair while in detention, as it looked gray.
Supporters waved the South Korean and American flags joyfully, chanting 'President Yoon Suk-yeol,' 'Hooray,' and 'We love you.' President Yoon walked about 10 meters from the main gate for around 2 minutes, sharing joy with his supporters before getting into a Cadillac vehicle from the security service to move. He is expected to head to the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan, Seoul.
The release of President Yoon occurred after the court revoked the arrest order on the 7th and the prosecution dropped the appeal on that day. This marks 52 days since he was arrested by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on charges of being the ringleader of insurrection on January 15, and 41 days since he was indicted and detained on the 26th of the same month.
