President Yoon Suk Yeol was released from the Seoul Detention Center on the 8th and returned to his residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. This comes 52 days after he was arrested by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on charges of leading a rebellion on Jan. 15. It is also 41 days since he was indicted and detained by prosecutors on the 26th of the same month.
The Cadillac vehicle from the Presidential Security Service carrying President Yoon arrived on Hannam-daero, near the residence, around 6:15 p.m. Yoon got out of the car, bowed slightly to greet supporters, and waved his hand. He also shook hands with some supporters before getting back into the vehicle and returning to the residence.
Supporters of President Yoon gathered in front of the residence, waving the national flag and the American flag as they welcomed the released president. The rally moderator said, "Please do not leave us again," and supporters shouted, "Impeachment Your Honor."
Around 5:48 p.m. on the same day, President Yoon left through the main gate of the Seoul Detention Center and walked several meters while greeting supporters. He waved his right hand repeatedly and clenched his fist, bowing several times. After sharing happiness with supporters for two minutes, he boarded the Cadillac vehicle from the Presidential Security Service and headed to Hannam-dong.
Through his legal representatives, President Yoon expressed his gratitude for the courage and decision of the Central District Court that corrected the illegalities. However, he did not deliver a direct message when he met with supporters in front of the main gate of the Seoul Detention Center or in front of the residence.
