The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 2nd that, in response to the heavy snow forecast for the metropolitan area, it will implement the first stage of snow removal emergency work starting at 10 p.m. that day and will deploy snow removal vehicles and equipment.
The city plans to deploy 4,926 personnel and 1,318 snow removal equipment in accordance with the announcement of the first stage of snow removal emergency work. It is expected that snow will accumulate significantly from the time rain turns to snow, so the city plans to monitor weather conditions and closed-circuit television (CCTV) on city roads in real-time.
The city will also sprinkle de-icing agents before the snowfall and push aside the snow accumulated on the roads, while quickly activating road heating and automatic saline spraying systems.
Han Byung-yong, head of the Disaster and Safety Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, noted, “We will thoroughly prepare to prevent any inconvenience to citizens due to the snowfall.” He added, “A significant accumulation of snow is expected for a short time tomorrow morning, so please refrain from using personal vehicles as much as possible and use public transportation.”
