The Ministry of the Interior and Safety noted on the 28th that it will operate a joint 'Flood Damage Recurrence Area Disaster Cause Investigation Team' to prevent flood damage from heavy rainfall.
The operation of this investigation team is due to the fact that an average of 13 people have died and property damage of 257.9 billion won occurred per year due to floods over the past 10 years since 2014.
The government sees that with climate change leading to more frequent heavy rains, the frequency of flooding will also increase.
As such, measures will be taken in areas near dams and river embankments.
In this regard, the investigation team held its first meeting today and discussed future operational plans, including the disaster cause investigation plan. The investigation team will include a total of 13 members, with Jeong Geon-hee from Hoseo University as the team leader, along with private experts and Directors from related agencies.
The investigation team plans to prepare measures to prevent casualties from floods by May.
Lee Han-gyeong, head of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, 'To prevent past flood damage cases from recurring, we will thoroughly investigate the causes of damage centered on dams and rivers, and establish improvement measures.'
