The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 27th that it will conduct industrial safety inspections at 22 sites of Hyundai Engineering where road, railroad, and excavation work are underway.

This inspection is being carried out to prevent the recurrence of the collapse accident at construction site 9 of the Sejong-Anjeon Expressway that occurred on the 25th. Previously, this accident resulted in 4 fatalities and 6 injuries, totaling 10 casualties.

Local labor offices will verify and check the management status of safety and health in accordance with industrial safety and health laws. In case of violations, legal action will be pursued.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor will also conduct urgent safety inspections at 349 construction sites for bridges with a distance of 50m or more between piers. The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency will check compliance with construction standards such as design drawings and the establishment and implementation of work plans during heavy lifting.

Local labor offices of the Ministry of Employment and Labor will implement work stoppages and supervision if necessary, based on the agency's inspection results.

Kim Jong-yun, head of the Ministry of Employment and Labor's Industrial Safety and Health Agency, said, "Accidents have been repeatedly occurring at construction sites recently, and we will inspect the safety conditions of the sites with greater vigilance," and urged, "Please thoroughly check risk factors before work and make every effort to prevent accidents."
