Singer Tony An, known for the hit ‘Pikcipikci’ song, which gained worldwide fame through its cheering dance, recently disclosed the copyright payment he received.
Tony An, who appeared for the first time in three years on SBS's ‘My Little Old Boy’ aired on 23rd, was revealed to be the original artist of the hit ‘Pikcipikci Song’ from last year.
The KIA cheering song ‘Pikcipikci’ dance is a short dance performed by cheerleaders when a pitcher strikes out an opposing batter.
The original version of ‘Pikcipikci Song’ is ‘My Lecon’ by the three-member boy group JTL, which debuted in 2001, consisting of Jang Woo-hyuk, Tony An, and Lee Jae-won. The ‘Pikcipikci Song’ was rearranged by increasing the BPM (beats per minute) from the original. It is known to have been rearranged by a DJ from Indonesia.
The name ‘Pikcipikci’ was given by fans, referring to the sound made when cheerleaders' shoes scrape against the floor. It embodies the gesture of boasting in front of an opposing player who has just struck out.
Especially, a video of KIA cheerleader Lee Joo-eun performing the ‘Pikcipikci’ dance has recorded over 93 million views. In the video, Lee Joo-eun is seen adjusting her makeup while dancing to the ‘Pikcipikci’ song, which became a hot topic.
International celebrities, influencers, and overseas fans also posted videos of themselves dancing to this song.
However, Tony An noted through the broadcast that he did not earn much because he registered the copyright for ‘Pikcipikci Song’ late.
Tony An said, “I didn’t earn a penny while it was trending because I didn’t register the copyright. I registered it just three months ago, and the amount I have earned so far is about 260,000 won, enough to buy a steering wheel for a large car.”
Singer Yoon Min-soo said, “If the copyright registration had been faster, it could have been worth the price of an apartment.”
