The Ministry of Personnel Management announced on the 21st that it will appoint Kim Sang-hyun, a professor at Yonsei University College of Economics, as the Director of Economic Analysis at the Fair Trade Commission, effective the 24th.
The appointment of the new Director, Kim, is part of the government's headhunting initiative to recruit private experts into public office. The Ministry of Personnel Management is looking for and recommending tailored talent based on requests from ministries and public institutions. Through this effort, a total of 122 experts have entered public service, including Director Kim.
Director Kim will oversee tasks such as supporting economic analysis for cases under the Fair Trade Commission, responding to issues, analyzing and supporting the competitive effects of restrictive laws and systems, and training on economic analysis techniques related to competition.
He is an expert who has served as a professor at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom and Yonsei University, conducting numerous economic analysis consultations in the field of fair trade.
Director Kim noted, "To properly respond to fair trade cases, the role of economic analysis support is extremely important," and added, "Based on the research experience and knowledge I have accumulated, I will strive to enhance the Fair Trade Commission's economic analysis capabilities."
Choi Si-young, head of the Talent Information Department at the Ministry of Personnel Management, said, "I am pleased to have identified an economic analysis expert with both professionalism and practical experience through the government's support in recruiting private talent," and added, "We will actively support the recruitment of outstanding talent to strengthen the professional capabilities of the public service."
