The Ulsan Southern Police Station stated on the 20th that a man in his 20s, identified as A, was apprehended on charges of arson and is currently under investigation.

A is suspected of committing arson four times on the same day, including starting a fire at a university open space in southern Ulsan at 1:18 p.m. on the 19th.

The arson incidents occurred over a distance of about 200 meters along a pathway in the open space. Specific details regarding the tools used for the crime have not yet been identified. Fortunately, the four incidents did not cause significant damage.

The police identified A as a suspect based on CCTV footage from the university and burned Chinese language books found at the scene.

The police immediately placed a travel ban on A. A was apprehended at Gimhae International Airport in Busan while inquiring about flight options around 6 p.m. on the 19th.

During police questioning, A reportedly provided incoherent statements regarding the motive for the crime. The police are currently assessing A's mental health history and considering a psychological evaluation.

The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A as soon as the investigation is complete. A is reported to have been attending a university in Ulsan as an exchange student since 2023.
