According to Jongno Academy, 235 students who were accepted through regular admission to Seoul National University (SNU) for the 2025 academic year have given up their registration. This is an increase of 16.3% compared to the previous year (202 students).
The results compiled by Jongno Academy that day are based on the figures officially announced on the university's website.
Among the students who gave up their registration for SNU's regular admissions, 178 were from the natural sciences, which is an 8.5% increase from the previous year. The humanities saw a 45.7% increase to 51 students. The arts also had 6 students, a 100% increase from last year.
The department with the highest number of students giving up registration in the natural sciences at SNU is the College of Nursing (16 students). This is followed by the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering (12 students), the Department of Computer Engineering (11 students), and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (10 students).
In the humanities, the highest number of students giving up registration was in the Interdisciplinary Studies (11 students). This is followed by the Department of Economics (7 students), the humanities (6 students), and both the College of Business Administration and the College of Arts (5 students each).
Jongno Academy also noted that 690 students accepted through regular admission to Yonsei University have given up their registration. This is a slight decrease from the previous year (724 students).
Among the students giving up their registration at Yonsei University, 211 were in the humanities and 474 in the natural sciences. The number in the humanities decreased by 19.5% compared to last year, while the natural sciences increased by 8.7%. The arts had 5 students.
Jongno Academy said, "The students who gave up their registration at SNU are presumed to be those from the natural sciences who applied cross-departmentally to the humanities or students who were accepted at other medical schools." They added, "At Yonsei University, the number of students giving up in the humanities decreased compared to the previous year, likely because starting this year, points for social studies have been added in regular admissions, resulting in fewer natural science students applying cross-departmentally to the humanities."
