Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has been selected as a witness in the trial of private developers related to the Daejangdong development embezzlement case.
The 22nd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (presided by Director General Cho Hyung-woo) stated on the 17th that, during the trial of five individuals, including Kim Man-bae, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu, and Yoo Dong-kyu, former head of the planning department of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, 'We will summon this representative for questioning on March 21.' This accepted the prosecution's request for a witness.
The court noted, 'We plan to send a summons to this representative within this week.'
Kim and other private developers are accused of causing a loss of 489.5 billion won to the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation by colluding with the city during this representative's tenure as Seongnam mayor. This representative is also undergoing a separate trial related to these allegations. Previously, Yoo and Nam testified as witnesses in this representative's trial.
It has not been decided how many times the court will summon this representative as a witness. Yoo requested 30 hours for cross-examination of this representative. Kim and Namuk, a lawyer, each requested 6 hours, while accountant Jeong Yeong-hak and lawyer Jeong Min-yong requested 6 hours and 2 hours, respectively. Consequently, there is a possibility that the witness questioning of this representative may take place over multiple sessions.
However, it is uncertain whether this representative will comply with the witness summons. When the court stated that 'this representative may not show up,' Yoo replied, 'If he does not show up, please issue a warrant for his appearance.' The court may impose fines or issue a warrant for appearance if a witness does not comply without a valid reason.
