The court allowed former Army Counterintelligence Command Chief Lee In-hyung and former Capital Defense Command Chief Lee Jin-woo, who were each arrested and indicted on charges of engagement in insurrection, to meet and exchange letters with their spouses and direct relatives.
According to the legal community on the 17th, the 20th Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court (Director General Hong Dong-ki) made a partial grant decision regarding the appeal against the ban on visits to the former commander and the former chief of the guard, which was decided on the 12th.
Earlier, the military prosecutor's office applied for a prohibition on visits and correspondence with non-lawyers for these individuals, and the Military Court of the Central Region accepted this request.
The two appealed to the Seoul High Court on the 13th of last month against this decision. According to the high court's 'partial grant' decision, they are expected to be allowed to meet and exchange letters with their spouses and direct relatives, aside from their lawyers.
However, it has not yet been decided whether the appeal filed by former Special Warfare Command Chief Kwak Jong-geun and Army Chief of Staff Park An-soo, made with the same purpose, will be granted.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission plans to hold a Military Rights Protection Committee on the 18th to discuss the urgent relief issue regarding the prohibition of visits and correspondence with non-lawyers for Lee In-hyung, Lee Jin-woo, Kwak Jong-geun, and former Intelligence Command Chief Moon Sang-ho.
