A Chinese national was sentenced to prison for stealing another passenger's credit card on a flight from Hong Kong to Incheon and using it to make purchases worth 100 million won.
According to the legal community on the 12th, Judge Kim Ji-hu of the Incheon District Court sentenced the Chinese national, identified as A, who was indicted on charges of theft and fraud, to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
A was put on trial for rummaging through the bag of another Chinese passenger on a flight departing from Hong Kong to Incheon International Airport in mid-May last year and stealing a credit card and $5,000 (approximately 6.6 million won at the time).
It is reported that after arriving at Incheon Airport and entering the country, A met with two Chinese accomplices and allegedly purchased over 100 million won worth of jewelry with the stolen credit card while wandering around jewelry stores in the Jongno district of Seoul.
The court said, "Although the defendant denied some of the charges, the evidence clearly indicates guilt," adding, "Considering the circumstances and methods of the crime, the nature of the offense is very poor and the situation after the crime is also unfavorable."
